The continental climate prevails for the most part of huge landscapes of Russia. Cold winter, fairly hot summer, short off-seasons and moderate rainfalls are characteristic differences of the russian climate. The best time for travelling in Russia is the period from May to September. However, in winter, when there is lots of snow in Russia and it is beautiful there, like in a fairy tale, any excursion also turns into a real pleasure.

There are four main seasons in Russia - winter, spring, summer, autumn, and conventionally, they can be compared with a different times of a day:

Winter is same sleep or night time. The months of winter for European part of Russia are December, January and February, but usually winter is longer period. Usually snow cover in the Central area of the country (in the city of Moscow and near areas) from the end of November till mid April, and therefore the average daily temperature is less then 0 degrees during this period. Frosty in Saint-Petersburg is little less. Continentality of the climate is increasing due to advancing to the east of the country and, therefore, the frosts are becoming stronger and the air - drier.
Spring is an awakening or morning. Spring comes to the European part of the Russia at the end of March, the snow melts actively, the temperature increases rapidly in April, but nights still remain cool till May. As it approaches to May the grass appears, the buds bloom on the trees, the flowers plant in the flowerbeds. The fountains in the cities work from the middle of the May till the 1st of October.
Summer is the most active time for lives from all year or same noon time. The summer in Russia is moderately warm, +25..+27 degrees, in some areas of the country it is even hot. The warm days in the European part of the country can change to hot days, during which the temperature may exceed +30..+35 degrees. Short heavy rains can be periodically within three months (June, July, August), sometimes they accompanied by thunderstorms. Weeks without rain or some days with coolness +15 degrees in the afternoon are also possible in summertime. There are plenty of flowers, greens, fresh fruits, berries and vegetables during whole summer. The entire flora and fauna will have through a full cycle during this warm season from birth to accumulating strength to survive in cold winter, and migratory birds raise their nestling and teach them to fly during this months, so they become able to make first long flight to other south countries.
Autumn is a gradual preparation for a sleep, the evening. Autumn comes to the Central regions of Russia from the first dates of September. This month is usually rainy but warm, and there are lots of fresh fruits and vegetables still. First serious freezing happen in the month of October, temperature falls to 0 degrees during night hours. First snow falls in the month of November, and permanent snow cover appears to the end of the month usually.

And russian soldiers had to defend their homeland very often and always honorably performed their duty. Of course, special attention and importance this holiday had acquired in a connection with the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, as that war affected in Russia absolutely each and every family. Also, in the late February or early March (dates vary from year to year) people in Russia celebrate Maslenitsa - this is the last week before Great Lent, at this time its decided to meeting each other and treating everyone pancakes.
